Whenever I have looked on the web for free patterns I have always been stymied and only come up with the really naff stuff - however there are some really great free patterns out there if only you know where to look!

I'm going to start by adding my favourite patterns/free pattern sites - please add your own and we can make this a resource to refer back to in the future

rantinghousewife · 26/08/2007 19:27

And berroco here

rantinghousewife · 26/08/2007 19:30

Oh and not strictly knitting patterns but, it does have some good ideas is craftster. I am addicted to this site.

thelady · 01/09/2007 13:57

Nobody mentioned magknits yet....

mamama · 01/09/2007 14:03

I like Lion Brand and Coats and Clark

I use them mainly for crocheting though but they do have lots of knitting patterns too.

warthog · 01/09/2007 17:44

this guy sometimes knits stuff from free patterns.

Tamum · 01/09/2007 18:02

Classic Elite also worth signing up with, and they do have some free patterns on their website. Elann.com have lots of free patterns too; they change fairly frequently so worth saving anything you find interesting.

My absolute, utter, favourite website ever for knitting is Ravelry. It's the most fantastic clearing house for just about everything, and is a particularly good place to see how a particular pattern fairs when knitted up by lots of different people. It's still in a beta testing phase at the moment, so you have to queue to join, but it's so worth it.

Miaou · 05/09/2007 18:59

Thanks for that Tamum!

I am just adding knitting pattern central which I spotted being linked on another thread.

If anyone links to free patterns, feel free to add them on here! Better to have links duplicated than missed out IMHO
