Does anyone have a copy of Debbie Bilss' Special Knits?

here

I am doing the bigger version of the cardigan on the front for DD1 (it's in Junior Knits), but the pattern doesn't have a button. It fastens with a pin instead. DD however wants a button

I'm wondering how to do the buttonhole. It's a 2x2 rib knitted on circular needles. So I'm guessing it would have to be a sort of vertical hole casting off and casting on again the next row? Going to choose a button today to see what size the hole will need to be.

Any advice?

I've got "Junior Knits" out of the library atm with that pattern in - lovely isn't it

I would go with a big pearlised or wooden button and yes, do a cast off/cast on method for the buttonhole.

Also, you could sew up the sleeve and side seams before completing the rib bit, then get her to try it on to see where the buttonhole could be best placed.

What colour are you doing it??

It's done in pale pink.

Big wooden button. Cast on/off four stitches for it.

It's a bit short though

Mmm, nice colour! It is short though, you are right - more of a bolero jacket style I think.

Look at this - this is what I want to knit next! (For myself!)

Oh wow!

Good luck
