How do I stop fabric from curling?

I have an overlocker machine (think that’s the correct name for it) and I’m trying to make something fairly simple.

I wanted a soft patterned fabric with a bit of stretch. I’ve no idea when it comes to fabrics so walked around the shop until I found what felt right for what I was looking for. It is stretch jersey.

I haven’t tried it out yet, but can already see a potential problem. The ends curl. The pattern is only on one side and it curls to show the underneath.

I’ve read online that some starch and an iron will fix this but I’m just wondering...upon washing won’t the starch wash out and the item just curl up again?

Any guidance appreciated, thank you Smile

Won't the edges be secured under stitching and on the inside though?
