Wterproof and heat proof varnish for air dry clay???

Hiya!

I’m making air dry clay soap dishes and coasters for gifts. All going well but realised my usual Mod Podge varnish isn’t going to withstand constant wet soap or hot mugs.

My dad has a load of polyurethane varnish so I could use that... but I’m worried it will, somehow, melt the acrylic paint I’ve used. (Actually have no idea, I just know it smells really strong).

Can anyone recommend a craft friendly waterproof/heat proof varnish for air dry clay?

Yacht varnish will do it. It says it's for wood but works perfectly well for clay.

Ok thank you. Do you think that will be heat resistant?

Yes. It dries rock hard - takes a while to dry properly but will withstand hot mug type heat no problem.

I think you might have to put the Modge podge on first and then the yacht varnish otherwise the colours may run.

Ok thank you re. Mod Pdge first
