Am taking DS1 (17mths) to our local History Museum on Sunday where he will meet dinosaurs etc and have the opportunity to sit and colour. I was thinking of making a few large sized posters, sticking dinosaurs and different animals on so that he can look at it in the playroom (our once living room!)everyday and learn them. Flashcards have been given to us but are useless right now, DS more interested in biting them, throwing them across the room though recently has taken a great interest in books.
Any ideas for posters? Was thinking of a dinosaur theme and then maybe 'in the garden' as we walk around the garden most afternoons for 20 minutes or so with watering can etc..
Do you think he is too young for this and i'd be wasting my time? I used to teach so actually enjoy this type of creativity.
Thanks.

he's 17mo and you want him to learn the names of dinosaurs?!

Get some dinosaur books from the lib and put up some posters if you really fancy it, but don't expect him to show the slightest interest, so if you do spend a lot of time and effort making them acknowledge you're doing it for yourself not for him

(on flashcards I'm def with DS - biting and throwing them across the room is much more fun)

LOL! Noooooo, not to learn the name of dinosaurs, just to learn that 'this is a dinosaur' LOL

Just wanted some ideas for posters as he's recently taking a great interest in books, pointing at everything and saying new words. That's it.

phew!

My mum used to teach reception and keeps suggesting this kind of thing for the (as yet unborn) BadgerCub... I think she misses it!

I think there's a bit of that in me too! Guilty!
