Crotchet question

So I'm just learning and have bought a book that is pretty good. There is somthing the book doesn't make clear so I wondered if anyone could help.

So I'm doing a treble crotchet stitch. At the end of each row I do a turning chain of three. When I then start the next row do I slip my hook under the first stitch from the turning chain or do I miss those and start from the main bit.

Hope that makes sense.

Does this help? It shows you on the last pic.

There's some fantastic YouTube tutorials too, you just have to check whether they use US or UK crochet terms or it can get confusing...

The 3 chain stitches are instead of the 1st treble so you do your 1st treble in the last but one treble of the previous row.
Hope that makes sense

I wouldn't chain 3 it looks sloppy
I'd chain 2 and when you get more experience look for the standing stitch

If you're interested, this book is great for learning to crochet. Alternatively there are really helpful videos on YouTube. Sometimes illustrations just don't show it as well as a moving image does.
