Crochet Beginner for Woolly Hug

A thread to help me crochet a square for the Chernobyl woolly hug blankets! Anyone else want to join in for a good cause?

I have started by doing two YouTube tutorials by Bella Coco for a granny square but they don't look quite right.

Is a different type of square easier for a beginner?

Hmmm..I want to to do one and attach bunny ears for the DC but I'm worried it will be too big

My tension is very loose, but you don't have to keep on increasing as per the pattern. When you get to, say, 50 stitches, try it on your dc; if it fits OK around then just keep doing htr into the stitches until you've got it deep enough.

I also really want to have a go at a chunky sort of granny square poncho for kids...I have seen one on the woolly hugs craft sale and will try to buy it but would love to make my own too!

No, SallyDog, I thought a bobble would be easy peasy, but I kept cutting the wrong bit and ended up with handfuls of short unusable lengths of orange wool. Very embarrassing (not to mention wasteful)!
