Where can I bulk buy enough wool to crochet a blanket for a double bed?

Some of the prices are making my eyes water lol.

Anything that's proper wool is going to be expensive for a blanket of that size. I purposely didn't add up what my blanket cost as it was 100% merino so super expensive.

If you're willing to have acrylic you'll be able to do something more affordable. Stylecraft special is the one recommended a lot although I cannot stand the feel of it when I'm crocheting.

What sort of yarn did you have in mind?
Colormart is great for natural fibres in bulk quantities.

If you want something cheap it will probably need to be acrylic or a blend.

Stylecraft special DK is all I use for blankets, it works up so nicely and washes well too. Roughly £1.80 per ball depending on where you shop. I tend to get it from my local yarn store, or Wool Warehouse online.

Thanks all.

I think I will have to go to the wool shop and buy a bit at a time and hide the receipts from DH lol.

Fairfield Yarns in Lancashire stock surplus yarns from the textiles industry and are worth a look.

They are very friendly and knowledgeable and you can get good quality cones of yarn at a fraction of the price of buying individual balls from a wool shop.
I do large scale tapestry weaving and get most of my yarns from there but I know they do knitting and crochet type yarns too.
Ebay can be a good source too. Try searching for 'Bulk Buy Yarn'

Drops yarn is good value. There are many fibre combinations etc - it’s available from Wool Warehouse.

Stylecraft life is an acrylic/wool mix and it does feel slightly different to the Stylecraft Special. I’ve never used it before but I have a ball here to hook together a Wooly Hugs blanket and it feels nice.
