I quite fancy a whole years worth of project. Any idea how? I was thinking ...

25-30
39-35

8 colours? Is that enough? How would I know how many of each to order? What colours?

i think you do need a lime/pistachio/sage in there somewhere...and I would be tempted to put your three blues in the middle, I think it might be quite a dark blanket otherwise.

I was looking at the KingCole Aran cotton

(Fuchsia), Cherry, Rust, Lemon, Buttercup, Lime, Sage, (Evergreen), Surf, Cornflower, (Lilac), Crocus, Merlot

Bracketed ones might be missed out, I am somewhere not very warm!

Was also pondering about doing JAYG small grannies, with minimum as centre and maximum as first round, but have not yet got around to working out what sort of granny, and whether to have a joining neutral colour, or how big to make the blessed thing.

I have so much to finish first, but am itching to get on with one of these!

This is great, I do think you picked a good year for it though! I'd worry that a typical UK year wouldn't be nearly as interesting.

I'd like to do one, but haven't found a good stitch that would allow me to make a 365 row blanket without it being far too big.

drspouse · 20/01/2019 12:53

I worked out that 240 stitches and 365 rows is about right for approx 5ft square.
I've ordered a pale grey and a bright red for the ends, a pistachio and a lighter blue.

What sort of stitch/pattern is that?

I only crochet so a granny stripe blanket for me with DK yarn is about 120 stitches and 240 rows, I don't know any 'shorter' stitches that would work up well to a blanket - the ones I do know produce something that is stiffer than i would want for a blanket.

Trying to work out if something corner to corner would work

I'm just doing garter stitch.

Is it bad to be excited by the cold weather - I've a bit fed up of keep using the same colours Grin

drspouse · 01/02/2019 20:39

Not at all! But I don't think I'll get to use my 1C or lower yarn at all (high yesterday was 2).

You have all inspired me to make a temperature blanket as my next project - but what basic crochet blanket pattern should I use? when you google for patterns there are so many variations, and as a beginner I'm not sure I could design one myself - which stitch to use?

I like this one but would prefer straight not diagonal I think: deenascraftcorner.com/?p=239

and also this one, but if I alternate with white it's going to be really long....happyinred.blogspot.com/2013/11/diamond-stitch-blanket-crochet-pattern-tutorial.html And even if I don't alternate as the stitches are quite tall.

Any advice?? thanks!

AIBU to be really excited we might have a heat wave so I can use my reds?
(I'm up to about mid May).
