Colouring pencils

I would like to get DS(12) some colouring pencils for Christmas. I have the Faber Castell Polychromo pencils which he occasionally borrows, which I rather he wouldn't Smile

So I am looking at buying him a set that, preferably has over 100 colours, but is much cheaper than the Polychromos but which are still reasonable quality. I have seen various sets on Amazon which have reasonable reviews but some seem very cheap so not sure of their quality.

Can anyone recommend any?

Prismacolor are supposed to be ok and a lot cheaper than Polychromos. I don’t have any direct experience with them, but there are plenty of American Instagrammers who love them.

As far as I can tell, the main drawback with these pencils is that they tend to break a lot more easily than the Polychromos, and some users report that it can be difficult to sharpen the pencils. Positives are that they are really soft (if you like that kind of thing!), provide good coverage, come in a huge range of colours and are fairly cheap.

Not sure on your budget as still quite expensive but derwent watercolour pencils are nice (can just use as regular colouring pencils)

Or if you can go with fewer colours staedlter Noris club are good quality and very reasonable only I can’t find any packs bigger than 36 colours

It's only 60 colours, but we bought this one for my ds(9), enthusiastic artist. It's great because colours are more vibrant and clearer than normal coloured pencil, but you can erase the mistakes easily as well.
