Can anyone recommend one please, there are loads on Amazon but I haven't seen any in the flesh.

I love fair isle patterns but don't want to look like my granny so fair isle with a modern twist would be fab.

I quite like the free Rowan Fyne tank top so might make that anyway but would love a book recommendation.

Have a look at Kate Davies Designs. I have her most recent book, Inspired by Islay, which is modern Fair Isle. Also, take a look at Ysolda Teague another modern Scottish designer. I have knitted some of her earlier lace patterns, but not her fair isle. She has several books. They are both on Ravelry as well as having their own websites.

I've got a Kate Davies one and I really like it. I think it's Colours of Shetland or something like that.

Thank you, I have just bought Yokes and Inspired by Islay. They look just like what I wanted/was thinking about.

I didn't knit for years because I found it slightly boring until I discovered pattern by colour. I always assumed it was harder than I wanted to knit but it isn't and I find it keeps me interested.

Enjoy - inspired by Islay is a beautiful book in it's own right. I still haven't knitted anything from it yet, but love looking it.

I didn't realise that you got a PDF download as well as the printed book, I have been out this morning but will enjoy looking at that later. I went into Harrogate for an appointment to find that the wool shop I used has closed down which is a shame.

I found another shop but it didn't do much in the way of natural wools.

I did buy the shawl of secrets pattern by Sarah Knight and all the wool for it. It is a really easy knit, I will give it to DD on her birthday next week.

If it was baa ram ewe, they still have a shop in Leeds, and an online shop.

No it wasn't it was the one on Commercial St.

I work full time and am an opportunistic shopper, Leeds is in the opposite direction to home. I just happened to be nearby for an appointment.

Have you seen Kate Davies patterns? There are some Fairisle type things. She blogs so you'd find her if you Google her
