Do you know of any crochet lessons available in West London ??

Have got a book but would like some lessons from a pro, just to make sure I'm doing it right! Hear its easier than knitting - is that right?

this is a brilliant book.. I rediscovered my crochet skills with it... get this one, you don;t need a class!

yeah I looked at that book but didn't get it because its american. I'm doing the double crochet at the moment but not sure it looks right and I'm loosing stitches at the end

can't help on the teacher front - are there such things? not sure i've ever met a pro crocheter lol. it sounds like all you need is an s&b - someone will crochet and be happy to go through it with you.

in the mean time i love videos: annie's attic has every stitch and although it's american all you have to remember is they're one step below us (they're more logical i think) so double crochet(uk) is single crochet(us), treble crochet(uk) is double crochet(us) etc.

i found counting stitches every row helps you to see where you're going wrong. a common mistake with dc(uk) is not working into the first stitch of the row, so when you chain to turn you don't work into the chain, but you do work into the top of the stitch the chain comes from. when you trc the ch3(or however many) at the turn is the first stitch, but not for dc.

also i found working different colours helped me to find out how the stitches are formed (e.g. the final loop of the previous stitch sits on top of the next stitch) - you cna see this when you work in colour changes and once you know which bit of the stitch is which it makes the whole process much easier, i found.

what do you mean by chain to turn, is that when you add a chain when starting a new row when dc (like a foundation chain)?

Love the videos but now need to get my head around the american terms

yeah at the end of a row of dc you ch1 then turn (or vice versa depedning on pattern)

Either john lewis or Liberty will help out. I think there is a wool shop in Putney called "Stash" which may also hold lessons.

Is Kingston too far out for you? John Lewis run short crochet courses, I think they last about 4 hours - you bring the hook and they provide the yarn and teaching. No idea what they're like though.

There is one on at the end of March iirc. 24th maybe?
