Knitting pattern help please

Can anyone talk me through how to do this? I've tried quite a few different ways but it doesn't seem right.

With A, CO 2 sts, knit 10 rows in garter, turn work horizontal, pick up and knit 5 sts in garter edge, turn work and pick up and knit 2 original CO sts – 9 sts

So you've got a small garter stitch rectangle, with three sides of it on the needle?
What is it part of?

Does it mean make a stitch with each of the CO 2 stitches? Giving you four across the top and five down the side - difficult to visualise without seeing it in context though.

Cast on two, knit 10 rows. Pick up a stitch down the side of the rows you've knit, so two stitches from the co, 5 down the rows, then pick up two more from the cast on edge. So 9 stitches -original two, five from the side and two from the bottom. I'll see if I can do a diagram?

I think you are doing a garter tab, are you making a triangle shaped scarf/shawl? There's some good YouTube videos, search for garter tab. It's a way of knitting a triangle shape but starting in the middle of the straight edge rather than one of the points.

Ok, diagram attached. Red is your two cast on and 10 rows knit in garter. You then turn and pick up the five blue down the side. Turn again and pick up two blue from where you cast on. You still have the two original live stitches so 9 blue stitches total.
