Knit tiny ball (e.g. a cherry) with single pointed flat needles

Hi all. I am a weak crocheter and I'm struggling with making cherries. It's driving me insane.

I am a better knitter but can only use single pointed flat needles. Does anyone know how to knit tiny balls, the size of a cherry? Many thanks
