Very long shot - any weavers with the weavers idea book??

I want to use two heddles for the first time, page 197/8 to do any of the honeycomb variations and I am not getting it!

Not yet! the book is on its way to me now. I've just bought a second heddle for my loom.

Have you tried hunting out a youtube/vimeo video? they are great for showing the mechanics/moves alongside step by step printed instructions.

Oooooh a response, lovely - I was deregistered after doing the IOS10 update hence the name change!

If you go to interweave who publish the book you can actually buy a class with the author. I bought it yesterday ($30) and it is fab. Worryingly there wasn't a time stated and I wondered whether I could be paying $30 for ten minutes, but no - 2hours and 40 mins of tuition and a sampler project.

Lots of other things on offer too - worth it for me. There is a guild that meets about thirty miles away on one Saturday each month but I really can't be bothered .

What sort of loom do you have Twat (writing that makes me snigger!)?

I keep getting very close to an 8 shaft table loom, would quite like to weave a Linton style tweed to make myself a dress or jacket with. Then backing off and thinking my RH does what I want it to.

Weaving is an autumn/winter thing for me. I am gearing up to make a million things in the next few months. Love it because I can do it in the sitting room with the fire going whereas I can't use my sewing machines in there.

It makes me laugh when people call me that. Also guarantees my comments won't be published in newspapers ;)

32" rigid heddle by Ashford. Only bought it 6 weeks ago and I'm already into 2 heddles. I learn fast.

That's ace with te tuition. Books are great but often need videos to show the steps in motion. When the book arrives I may try that too!

I just bought some Swedish boat shuttles too. To speed up my weaving. Stick shuttles are bit unwieldy with a larger loom.

A friend gave me a 32" loom like yours that I have never used I find the stretch a bit big. Do you weave at full width??

I feel like I really should be moving onto a table or floor loom but generally manage to get everything I want out of my RH.

My favourite loom size wise is a 24" Kromski Harp - I swapped the pawls to the metal ones when they came out (think new ones come with them now) and it folds and unfolds with your work completely intact although it lives on the stand I bought for it in the main.

Fab thing to do, it is actually my favourite 'making' thing - I do a lot of other things - the only thing I need is time.

I am planning on making silk, wool and alpaca scarves with intentional holes for the important women in my life for Christmas!

I have intentions of making blankets. Have done a full width yarn test on it. Standing up to use ( mine fits nicely on my drawing board so I don't need. Separate stand) much easier than sitting and switching to boats rather than sticks makes the process a bit smoother at full width.

I was just worried with a small one is want bigger faster so went big but started off with smaller projects about a foot wide. Just finished a cotton/silk table runner. Next project will be a plain white cotton warp, long colour run, sparkly wool weft.

I'd stick with the RH until you absolutely cannot do anything new one it.

I've bought a couple of tapestry bobbins too. I have an idea for learning how to make tapestries.

I think I might actually need a table loom (or floor) though Twat. Have been RH'dling for about three years and fancy a change tbh. Have made some nice felted holey (as opposed to holy) things, lots of different patterns, checks and stripes along the way and of course log cabins galore. That thing where you wind it around a knitting needle to make loops, brooks bouquet etc., etc..

The guild (if I can ever be bothered to go) has equipment you can rent. I actually think I might go to their November meeting which is a skill share (rather than listening to someone go on about something too specific) to see if I can rent something If I haven't bought something else by then.

I learn whether or not I have got a big piece of work in two weeks, a celebratory 'loom' could be in order.

Ah that makes sense if you've had it for 3yrs! Renting sounds ideal. I don't have room here for a floor loom not unless I move (small uk houses are a pain sometimes!)
