I'm making a baby's cardigan; r-h front has buttonhole edge in moss stitch and says "p1, k1, p1, k2 tog, yf, k to end". I guess yf is yarn forward, does this make an extra stitch (how)? Every eighth row does this but I'm sure the number of stitches isn't meant to decrease.

The stitches aren't meant to decrease. Yf means the yarn goes over the needle and on the next row you knit or purl this stitch to form a small buttonhole. Hope that helps.

Thanks! That's very helpful - perhaps baby will get cardi while it still fits!
