This is our first time using Fimo - put it in oven and the whole kitchen filled up with nasty smelling smoky/steam stuff. Is this normal??

No, did you have the oven on low. Gas mark 1 for 10 mins.

Either that, or did some fall on an element?

130oC for 20 mins - it is a fan oven, could that be it? It was as if lots of steam was coming out, but thick steam that smelt of fumes.

Well, I have a gas oven, but I have never smelt fimo at all. It only needs to be sort of warmed through.
