my mums birthday is coming up and I have no idea what to get her! She likes to knit so I thought maybe a knitting hamper or similar but can't seem to find one that's "right". Can anyone help with some ideas of where to look or if I make one from scratch, what to put in it please?

Have a look at Attic24 online, she makes lovely stuff and has a link to a shop to buy the wool etc.

I'm assuming that your mum would have the basics like a full set of needles so (based on what I would like) you could include:

Darning needles/bodkins - maybe in a needle case
Stitch holders of various sizes
Glass headed pins
Tape measure
Small, sharp scissors - even better if they were on a chain so I can hang them round my neck to stop them slipping down the sides of the sofa.
Cable needles of various thicknesses
Stitch markers - there are some lovely fancy ones on eBay/Etsy
A nice binder/display book for my patterns
A skein of really lovely hand dyed yarn or a gift voucher for a local yarn shop

Possibly all in a lovely bag to store my projects in. Although my DD bought me a canvas bag with balls of wool printed on with the words "Ball Sack" on Grin

Thank you both! Some great ideas! Love the "ball sack" idea....
