Please can anyone help me with this knitting pattern!!!!! I'm on the verge of tears :(

First, I think my needles are all wrong. It requires a vintage 10 and 11. I found a conversion chart which said that was the equivalent of a modern 3 and 3.25. My rib rows weRe tiny though so I think my needles are too small?
Secondly (the bit that's made me want to cry) is that I just cannot get the fairisle bit to work. I don't know if I'm reading the pattern wrong but the black bits just don't seem to match up, so if anyone can clarify I would be eternally grateful!!

It's all resulted in being ripped off the needle in a massive strop!

I've never had this trouble with a pattern before please save my sanity!

needle sizes aside I think the only helpful thing I can say is to presume the squares are a single stitch/single row so for row 1 you read right to left, then row 2 is left to right
so like it says in the descriptions....is it just one pattern repeat or a whole row of four repeats?? And did you remember the single decrease down to 100 stitches?

If knitting from a chart, Tondelaya is correct, you read right to left to right to keft, and so on. What size wool are you using?

Thanks ladies!! Figured out where I'd gone wrong. .. I should have knitted 8m 2b 15m, 8m 2b 15m, to the end but id actually read it as knit 8m, then repeat 2b 15m, 2b 15m.... so it was totally off!

I threw it in the bin in a strop so have to start all the horrible ribbing again :(

I would knit that in Intarsia it if was me, I know you will have a million billion ends to sew in but it will look better in the end. You could do it Fair Isle but it will be a killer with such long floats and more than 2 colours in the row. You'd only need a metre or so for each colour patch. Maybe try a little swatch to practise the pattern panel first?
