You can buy plain paper crowns from www.partypieces.co.uk/pages/home/index.asp and big packs of stickers from Woolworths or those occasional cheap shops, either that or get to glue interesting things on to them or colour them in?

Orinoco,my local trendy arts centre does these for kids.
My dd had one last Saturday.
Two girls helped them decorate hats with lots of shiny sparkly stuff and streamers etc.

It was great. All the parents turfed in to help which seeemed to startle them however!

Get them to make their own party bags ? (might be a bit young for 6 year olds, though).

My dd went to one recently, and loved it. She came home with a painted money box (tescos), a decorated picture frame and picture, a necklace of those hard candy beads, and a card crown she had decorated.

I've had girls decorating biscuits, too which always goes down well (rich tea, butter icing, and a selection of bits to stick on.)
