Hi all I've never sewn before in my life but I saw a cheap machine in Lidl today and thought it might be a good place to start. Any one bought one from there? And any online shops for fabric. TIA

How cheap? Is it a recognised brand or a random thing they have in?

I have an 8yo cheapie from Netto - was £25 & a brand I've never heard of. As I've started sewing (after a looooong break) again, it's turned out to be a pain in the arse tbh. It'll be more to have it serviced than it was to buy & isn't really up to 'proper' sewing - more for repairs.

I've had to pinch my dad's machine to finish my current projects and am hoping to save for something decent in the (very) near future.

Me, my mum & my sister all have one of the Lidl machines - they are great!

Dp's mams machine is from Lidl! Taken me all night to remember Confused . She's happy with it, has been doing quite a bit of sewing lately for her wedding.

Ooo sounds promising then, think it was £59, I only want to do basic sewing so it's probably basic machine, ideal. Thanks for your help I'm off to lidl in the morning.

I have one from ikea for £45! It's great for making dd clothes and head bands ect. Also good for repairs. I use mines about 5 times a week too

Lidl sewing machines are really good. And if they break down they have something like a 2 year replacement policy (keep the reciept).

DD has a Lidl sewing machine and a Lidl overlocker that have both seen her through her textiles degree and are still going strong 4 years later.

I just found a nice website for fabric - Truro fabrics.

Also voted best online retailer there's Plush Addict. They don't do so many fancy materials but some lovely prints.

I get online fabric from two places...
