Going to make hand painted tea towels for Christmas presents - which paint?

Have a number of Elderly Rellies who don't need anything for Christmas but adore our 2 little girls so want to get them a token pressie for Christmas.

Was thinking of getting the girls to do do hand prints on a tea towel in the shape of a Christmas Tree and get the biggest one to write Happy Christmas, but what fabric paint can i use that will stay put on the tea towel but not on their hands?

Have seen Tea-towels in the Baker Ross Catalogue just need to know which paint?

I got some fabric pens (looked like felt pens) from John Lewis is town. We used them for DD to draw a picture and do some writing on a tea towel for MIL last year.

I like the Dylon stuff. Get it in fabric shops.

They have a tie-dye kit that's fun, too!

Dylon do nice ones that iron into the material so they stay soft

Baker Ross pearlised fabric paints are really nice effect but they don't iron soft .. so kind of sit on top of the fabric

I've used fabric felt tips and fabric wax crayons, think both need ironing to set. We did cheap aprons one year - plain ones were around £3 in Asda, the DS used nativity stencils to decorate them. His great granny was delighted, and wears it daily! He did handkerchiefs for the men too. Happy to lend you felt pens if you're interested - no good for handprints though.

Thanks for all the suggestions, i have bought some pensa nd some paints both of which claim to eb water-based so should hopefully wash off! look out for my thread in a weeks time saying have dyed my DD's hands how do i get fabric paint off!!!!
