Blanket: how do I stop the colour of the underside showing through?

I'm making a baby blanket: White cotton on the main side with multicoloured stripes across it, and with a turquoise dimple plush/minky on the other side.

Problem is that the turquoise is quite strong and kind of 'dulls' the white of the main side. Can I just add a 3rd layer by putting some white cotton in between? Does it need to be the same weight cotton as the main side?

Sorry if this is an obvious question but I'm fairly new to sewing and need to finish this project soon so I don't really have time for mishaps!
