General Knitting Thread - And Photos of a Finished Project!

Ok, I've finally uploaded good pics of the blanket I just finished. The blanket took forever and is bloody huge, for a project in 4-ply.

Pictures are Here .

I'm working on a hat that looks a fair bit like an ice cream cone, for complicated reasons, for a baby who was probably born yesterday or today.

That's fantastic.

UCM · 21/10/2006 12:48

Tis wonderful NQC.

Littlefish · 21/10/2006 13:23

NQC - that's fabulous - I love it.

I think you and I started knitting blankets at roughly the same time. I've got one more set of entrelac rectangles to go (which form the final row if you see what I mean), and then a border of triangles all the way round - it's 54 triangles I think!.

I know what you mean about getting tired of knitting something after a while. I'm bored rigid with my blanket now! I'll post a photo when I finally finish it.

FillyjonkthePumpkinEater · 22/10/2006 11:47

have just finished a panta, am so utterly bored with it that I can't even be arsed to link, its a kind of hat/headband for those of us with easily flattened hair.

Anyway, it was less than a ball of kid classic, basically just inc/dec ribbing, piss easy.

And I was so bored with it by halfway through that it took me literally 10 weeks to do.

so...respect

off to knit dd a starwberry hat now, i think.

NotQuiteCockney · 25/10/2006 21:22

Ok, another finished project - a hat and a badge : here .

jeangenie · 25/10/2006 21:38

NQC

fab blanket and I like the hat/badge combo a lot too - lucky babies

(motherpeculiar)

NotQuiteCockney · 25/10/2006 21:40

MP, what's up with the disguise? Some sort of David Bowie theme?

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 25/10/2006 21:41

The hat is for a baby who's just been born. DS2 insisted all along that the mum had ice cream in her belly, not a baby. So I've made a cone for the ice cream baby ...

feeling a bit too peculiar lately to be totally comfortable with the "peculiar" moniker, if I am honest!!!

change is as good as.... etc....

(and my cat is called Jean )

like the icecream story

NotQuiteCockney · 26/10/2006 15:51

Is it Jean pronounced like in English, or as in French?

Fair enough re: name change ... your current name seems like it needs capitals, though, somehow ...

Marina · 26/10/2006 15:56

Love that hat too NQC

jeangenie · 26/10/2006 16:35

English pronunciation - like an old lady who likes her tea a lot, 'cept for the cat it is sleeping she is most fond of

you are right on the caps I think - must sort that out someday...

womblingalong · 26/10/2006 16:42

NQC,

It's just beautiful, and god, in 4ply must have taken ages! I won't ever knit anything big in 4ply because I just know I would get too bored to finish it!

NotQuiteCockney · 26/10/2006 16:46

Yeah, the blanket took forever. Hat took just a week or so. I'm working on my next 4-ply hat now.

The blanket was posted to Canada on Tuesday, dunno when it'll get there.

NotQuiteCockney · 01/11/2006 15:00

More hat pics up, with description, here .

I'm almost done another hat, and thinking about maybe making some tiny Xmas decorations. Oh, and a hat for CF's son, maybe?

OP posts:
lionheart · 04/11/2006 13:16

That is really sweet. I love that blanket too (it must have taken ages), fab.

NotQuiteCockney · 04/11/2006 14:13

I'm working on my first Xmas decoration, as I got impatient waiting for the yarn for CF's son's hat (are Texere normally fast?). I'm making a bell, in green. I'll stuff it, and put a circle of cardboard in the bottom, I think, and then hang a little bell from the bottom ... should work ok? Good to work on my pinhole caston again, anyway, as I hadn't used it for ages ...

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 04/11/2006 21:18

Ok, question ... I'm making a bell. It's working ok. But do I really have to sew in the ends properly? Can I just sew them in a bit, and then tie a knot, as it will be on the inside of the bauble?

OP posts:
lionheart · 05/11/2006 19:31

Sounds reasonable. Unless, of course, you're one of those people for whom a little short-cut like this would prey on your mind, keeping you awake at night ...
Are you making a whole set of Christmas decorations?

NotQuiteCockney · 05/11/2006 21:36

I ended up sewing in the ends a bit, and then leaving a tail, because, hey, it's inside an xmas ornament.

I'm almost done it.

I'm not sure what I'm doing. I've made a bell. I wanted to see if I could make one, and I did. Never made anything stuffed before, either.

I'll post pics in a bit, and think about it some more. I probably will make more decorations, I was thinking about giving them to family members this year ...

For those of you wanting to learn to knit (not me been doing it 30 years and just finishing an aran poncho blanket thing for ds 2 to wear in backpack papoose this winter), have you heard of Stitch n Bitch they run a web of meetings each week around the country you sit there knitting and gossiping! Try the website I think its stitchnbitch.co.uk. Has a list of the groups and contact details. It was started by a lady I was on the next mat to at yoga a couple of years ago! Also she has made and sells via the website a brill dvd of instruction in ye ancient art of knitting, got one for my niece its very good much better than a book as it 'moves'!

flibbertyjibbet · 05/11/2006 23:40

Stitch n bitch is for experienced knitters too, the groups make a cheap n cheerful night out for those of us with kids using up all our money....

blueamema · 06/11/2006 15:43

wow lovely blanket NQC! really special.

I don't knit...well have tried but it's just not for me! But my Nan, who tried to teach me, is fantastic!
Have recently put some of her stuff to sell on eBay... and would you believe one piece (Jemima duck)is going so far for £20!!

Take a look at...
this

Some of you may not be into toy knitting, but I just wanted to write this thread to give thanks to my Nan! as she is great! and all the money made on eBay goes to dd.
