donating knitting needles

I have a load of metal (and a collection of lovely colourful vintage plastic) knitting needles that I want to pass on somewhere they can be used. Does anyone have any idea where/who would take them. I used to work in a charity shop where we would never shift them but can't think of anywhere else.
Don't want to bin them and don't want to keep them as I prefer wooden needles

Any ideas?

Yes- contact the local schools. We had a knitting club and they were useful for beginners. You could also put a message up on ravelry.com to see if anyone local could use them. Also freecycle may work.
