Secret Santa scarf wool and pattern help

The lady I have got has been dropping hints for a scarf. She wears one all day in the office as she's a cold type. The current one she bought and its a soft black thinish woven one. I would love to knit her a new one in a nice bright colour. No idea what wool I should get or if someone has a nice tried and tested pattern. All help gladly received

Are you on Ravelry? There are thousands of patterns on there, most are available for free. I'd pick a pattern first and then see what type of wool you need for it. On Ravelry each pattern has pictures of projects where users have knitted up that pattern and they can say which yarn they've used, I find that really helpful to see a finished item and know what it's been knitted in.

Can you get a ball of ruffle scarf wool? Done in an evening or two!
