A nice art or craft present for 7/8 year old?

I'd like to get a friend's 7yo something arty/crafty for her birthday but it's really not my area! She's really good at drawing and art and I wondered if there's something a bit nicer/more sophisticated than ordinary supermarket art stuff that younger children use? Friend is a kind and lovely person so wanted to get her dd something special. Her dd could prob manage something aimed at a slightly older child. Thanks for any help .

Personally, I would avoid knitting or crochet kits at that age unless you are sure one of the parents knows how to knit or crochet.

I know how to crochet and wanted to weep yesterday trying to teach DD (8)

I would get some nice charcoal/ pastels/ sketch book etc

I don't think you can go far wrong with Djeco to be honest. Tickety Boo is a good place to buy from, never let me down.
