Does anyone know a list of different creative play activities for a 2 and a 1/2 year old toddler?

Banging saucepans, collecting boxes and building, hiding under improvised tent and playing camping. Picnics with teddy bears, water play under supervision, maybe filling and emptying containers in a bowl of water. Using thick crayons and paper, again under supervision as we don't want any being put in the mouth. Using big plastic/wood type bricks of different shapes. Pushing toys around, all about cause and effect. Hiding things in boxes and undoing them. Puppets to encourage language development. Making simple puppets with paper bags or socks. Sharing short stories, rhymes and acting them out eg Little Miss Muffet, Humpty Dumpty.

Good luck. Have fun. Fascinating to see how activities develop with your child's development. For example, playing with bricks changes so much that the activity can be seen to reflect their maturity. You might notice that at first children play on their own even if they are with another child. They play alongside each other rather than displaying real interaction in a play situation. This changes as they develop. Of course this is different from parent/child interaction where the adult is encouraging and sensitive to the child's needs. Exploring things together with the natural encouragement of associated language is so very valuable. Of course your little one will only be capable of relatively short periods of attention at the moment but stay strong.
