Crochet Pattern Help Please???

Could someone please have a quick look at this pattern and just see if I am missing something?

I want to make this skirt in a size 14-16.

I started making the foundation chain, but it is massive even in the smallest size (136 chain)!
And the squares that go around the hem are also really big, I'd thought I'd make one up because I've not used wool yarn before.
Am I missing something?
I have the right size hook, the recommended yarn, my tension is good....

Help please!

How big is your finished square?
Have you done the first row or just the chain?

Hi, thanks for replying.....I've just done the chain. And the square is 13x13cm without the border/last round, not 9.5x9.5 like it is supposed to be!

How strange. The chain length might be reduced after the first row as you miss out some chains but not sure why your square would be bigger if your tension is ok. The only thing I can think of is try another square using a smaller hook to see if that comes out nearer the correct size and hopefully in the meantime someone may come along who has used the pattern or has some more helpful advise. It's a pity that hardly any of the comments under the pattern are in English as someone may have been having the same problem. Sorry I can't be any more help, good luck.

Hi again, just had a look at the skirt on Ravelry and some people on there seem to have had the same problem so could be the pattern.

Thankyou for looking at Ravelry for me. I tried making the square on a smaller hook (3mm), but the wool is too chunky. I think I'll just try an improvised pattern then.......glad I'm not the only one having problems though, I thought I was being really dense!!
