TWO bad experiences buying yarn online in the last month

You'd think that an online business would be pretty good about... well, doing their business - sending orders that have been paid for. It's all they have to do, right?

I bought some lovely silk yarn online. Was very excited, it was unusual blah blah blah, but it never arrived. Fortunately I paid through Paypal so I've just upped my dispute to a claim. They haven't responded to a single query.

Then I bought some wool and needles from another shop, two balls of one colour, one of another. I waited a couple of weeks, but having just been burnt by case no. 1, I chased them up. They sent it the next day, but only one ball of each colour. When I spoke to them they said 'oh, I know why we did that - we only have one of that lot left. I'll send you two balls from the new lot tomorrow'. Now I've just noticed that they only sent me one of the circular needles I asked for. Arhghghgh am so pissed off I haven't followed it up further. Just won't buy from them again.

I naively thought wool shops wouldn't dream of diddling you - I mean, hardly a gangsta covva innit?

If they only have one ball in a lot left surely they should wait for the new lot and send you two balls from that? Isn't there a possiblity that they could be slightly different colours if you have two balls from two different lots?

exactly. they only had one ball left, thought 'what the hell, maybe she won't notice', but i did. they sent two new balls, so i have three balls of the same colour. at least the two new balls are the same lot. i offered to post the other one back but he refused. now i realised i'm still out of pocket because of the missing needle.

Agree with bran, they shouldn't risk sending balls of different dye lots. I have had a few bad experiences and lots of good ones- don't suppose you want to say who it was, do you?

shouldn't really say without them having the chance to put forward their point of view.

no, they shouldn't send balls from different lots. so why didn't they just send me two balls from the same lot in the first place? i think he wanted to get rid of that ball and hoped i wouldn't complain. shops must have this odd lot problem all the time.

am really angry about it as that's the only online shop i've found that sells that type of yarn. i'll have to get it by mailorder instead.
