For comparison purposes, the top 6 are blocked and the top bottom 6 aren't.

How are you going to join them?

If you are crocheting, it is harder to do if they have been blocked.

eddielizzard · 05/08/2014 12:06

i would join and then block personally.

TwoInTheMourning · 05/08/2014 13:02

I'd like to join then using this method: attic24.typepad.com/weblog/joining-granny-sqaures.html

Yes, perhaps if it's a bit too "ruched" when I join the lot, I'll block it a bit.

that method is fine and as long as you keep the same tension you shouldn't have any problems.

TwoInTheMourning · 05/08/2014 17:33

Thank eddie. I've never joined grannies before and I am really hoping for a seamless look.

Love your squares! :)

I used attic24's method for joining squares on my first granny square blanket. It worked really well and looked nice too!

TwoInTheMourning · 06/08/2014 19:20

Thanks *sudden&! Do you have any advice for me in term of stiching them together?

I did a practice run on some squares (I'd accidentally made too many). Just 3x2 so I could get a feel for it.
I did it in a contrasting wool colour so I could see what I was doing iyswim. It was remarkably easy! :)

I also planned my squares so I knew what order they were going in. I don't cope well with random - but that's just me! Blush

Good luck! :)

I don't know whether you are part of the mumsnet yarnaholics group, but my granny square blanket is the header picture. I didn't block a single part of that blanket as I completed the border the sheer weight of the blanket caused it to block itself.
If your not part it is a double bed sized granny square blanket composed of 144 small squares joined into fours and then with a border to form 36 squares which where joined as you go. Then finally a 9 round border.

Lonecatwithkitten · 07/08/2014 21:32

Oh yes the four small squares were joined by the Attic 24 method previously mentioned.

Catsmamma · 07/08/2014 21:38

that's how I join all my stuff if I am crocheting....it looks really good as the stitch edges you do not use make a nice line.

and i never block stuff! :D
