Ok so i have acquired a singer 427.... Its pristine and shiny and someone has clearly adored it, however when i tried it there was no movement in the lower half at all. Had a look and one of the gears was sheared right off. Put a new one in. Took me ages as the old one was the original, but eventually got it in. Then spent hours retiming it, which is now done. Put it all back together and the pissing feed teeth are too low!

A lot of the bits online talk about a screw which can lower or raise the feed - any ideas?

Im close to weeping. Actually weeping.

If you're anywhere near Suffolk then there's a lovely woman at the Raveningham Centre who will sort you out and just charge for parts if she can. Any use?

I have one too. Don't know how to fix your problem but it's worth getting it sorted - they're great machines. Much better than modern Singers. Try a yell search for a local repairman?

Actually, after rereading your thread....is it the screw on the back of the rod that holds the presser foot?
