Dressmaking advice needed - pattern/fabric compatability...help!

I am making my first trousers in class - but for the toile would this pattern and fabric be compatible - I am sticking to a loose design for my first foray into trouser fitting.

Would this fabric be ok or would the embroidery be a problem? I'd like to keep the price down for the toile but also like them to be wearable if possible.

Advice/suggestions welcome!!

with this fabric (suspecting if I look about I could get viscose or crepe cheaper which is needed for this pattern?)

I like the first pair of trousers you posted however I think the first fabric (the beige) will look odd when made into trousers. I think it is because the pattern is quite large.
The second fabric will ( I think) look fine when made into the second pattern however I cannot tell how fluid the second fabric is.

I think the first pattern will need a firmer fabric and the second something more drapey.

The "linen blend" fabric doesn't say what is in the blend apart from linen, but you can probably expect creasing and fraying. Might be rather hard work for your toile, unless you are using linen for the final fitted pair and want to get in plenty of practice with it? The embroidery is fairly subtle, but it will depend on whether you want to match up the embroidery design across the pieces - if you do, you may end up needing to buy quite a bit more fabric so it wouldn't be as economical.

I can see why you would want the toile to be wearable after you put all the work into it, but if you are anything like me, you may make one or two large mistakes in it - they will be useful learning for your final version, and will help you get a polished fitted final version. I generally don't try to make a toile that is perfectly wearable later - at best, I keep it as a pattern for making future copies. So I just use basic lining material (at around £2/m) or sometimes old sheets etc. Then I have a bit more in the budget for the fabric for the final version!

I'm sure your class tutor would be able to give you specific advice depending on which pattern you choose. Hope you have lots of fun in your class

Thanks - im missing my lesson this week so I was hoping to be "ready to go" next week - gonna have to size up the pattern I have anyway so I guess that can keep me busy until next week.

Always try to toille in a similar fabric to the final garment - only much cheaper. For instance, if you were making yoga pants in a high cost jersey, use a much cheaper jersey to toille them.

Thats what I was thinking Tigga - but for the linen ones its quite hard to find "cheap" linen

Not so hard for the viscose/crepe ones.

Calico would be fine for the first pair. each to sew presses well.
