Anyone just started or thinking about just starting knitting? I have seen some gorgeous patterns in magazines lately and have decided that I must learn. It would be great to have contact with another beginner (perhaps to email etc and give each other kick up backside to keep motivated).

Anbody interested in being my knitting pal?

I have just bought a book and am about to order the wool for the first pattern off the internet. So hopefully will be starting my first project soon!

lots of luck on your new hobby.

i find knitting very relaxing. whilst im not new to it, did my first scarf more than a decade ago, im not very prolific. each project takes a very long time to complete, and since the only reason to do it is because you want to, it sometimes takes forever.
have you practiced doing rows of knits? and purls? once you are confident in doing those, then try something more complicated. also, get someone to show you how topick up dropped stitches etc. i found older ladies are always helpful with this.

perhaps a good beginnning would be doing the squares for the blanket sometimes mumsnetters organise.
have fun.

I have just knitted a beanie hat, and am about to start another, found this really easy to start me knitting. Not sure I can manage anything more complicated. Good luck with your first project, what is it you are going to make ?

bensmum3 - I am going to make a scarf (bit predictable I know!) Well done with the beanie hat - did it take you long to make? I haven't got the wool yet but will get it soon!

SueW - thanx for the link.

It took me about a week to finish the hat, just working when I had a few minutes. I'm trying to do a half size one now, looks good so far, but don't know if it will work when it comes to shaping it at the top.

I have just started knitting a scarf! Not done any knitting for years but was inspired by a wool stall at a craft fair yesterday. It cuoldn't be ay more basic, but I thought it would be a good place to start !!
