You know those bits...

Which you cut off when tying off your knitting or crochet? the tails?

Does anyone (especially those of us using multiple colours) get left with a huge pile of ends of varying lengths. The ends of balls of wool are the same.

I hate waste and always wondering that if I saved them all up, what could I do with them?

Stuffing for small toys? Hair for toys? collages? or just bin them?

Anyone else have any ideas?

I have seen pictures of very pretty birds nests that have been formed by people leaving all the bits out at nesting time. I tried and they didn't take any! Fussy buggers! Although I suppose it might make their nests stand out to preditors.

I store them around the rotating brush head of my vacuum cleaner Grin.

I found a pin on Pinterest where you use a wire bird feeder to put them in, and birds take them to build nests in the spring, so I save mine in a food bag to put out in Feb / March.

I'll look to see if I can find the link.

Found it. Something like this

I tried offering mine to my rural MIL to leave out for her garden birds to build nests with, but she said the chicks get their legs caught in the strands Shock so I haven't bothered since and just throw them away. Seems so wasteful though! Tiny ends of balls I keep for projects that never happen Grin

If you are very resourceful and patient, you could collect enough to use as stuffing for some other knitting or sewing project.
