Knitting Pattern Help!!

I'm currently knitting Crofter DK 2256 and have got to the bit I have been dreading....the neck! I have finally read the pattern and it doesn't make sense-to the extent I think it might be missing a chunk of text-ie it's not just me being a muppet....!

Has anybody knitted this pattern before to help me out? Or do I just email sirdar and ask them? (Can you tell I'm new to this knitting malarkey?!).

Got to pick up some stitches for the neck first too-never done that before-am hoping it's not too tricky?

Thanks! Smile

That makes perfect sense, thank you. I wouldn't have thought of not knitting them straight away. The only issue I have is that it says to pickup and knit 18 stitches along neck edge but by my counting, I only have 18 stitches there anyway.

Will check out the website, thanks.

I've actually got this pattern, although I haven't knit it. If you want to quote the line where you think there are some instructions missing, I'll have a look at my copy.

Another picking up tip is to divide the number of stitches you need by 4 and pick up in equal chunks. So for example:

You need to pick up 40 stitches...

Divided by 4 that means 10 stitches per chunk. Take the piece of knitting you will be picking up from and fold in half. Mark the halfway point with a safety pin. Then fold from this point to the end and mark this halfway point with another pin. Do the same with the other half - so you have four equally sized sections of knitting. Pick up 10 stitches in each marked section. This will give you evenly spaced ribbing.

If you have odd numbers of stitches you may need to get a bit creative with your maths Grin

Thanks tribpot

On the neckband section mine goes from

"18stitches evenly along right side of neck and 31 sets left on a stitch holder at back of neck"

The next bit I have is:

"82 sts. Starting with 2nd row of st-st work 9 rows. Cast off knirways."

(I've only used numbers for smallest size)

wooleybacks -thank you, all ideas gratefully received! Odd numbers fill me with dread! I don't understand why I only have the number if stitches I need to pick up-will this matter?

Try looking it up on revelry. If people have found it incorrect they'll have said

Theas18 · 04/01/2014 22:14

Ravelry damn autocorrect!

Pumble · 04/01/2014 22:21

I can't see anybody mentioning it but the download on ravelery is 4 A4 sheets when mine is only 3 which may explain something?

Think it may have been cracked for me on ravelery. Not missing anything-just me being a muppet and not understanding the pattern....
