i used to do this when i was a student studying art and design but that was 10 years ago im now a mobile hairdresser and nail tech with two little ones now in school full time due to my job my hour are sporadic as in not 9-5 and so i would like to get back into this as a hobbie but eventually to earn a little money. Im wondering were to start though? its been so long since iv done anything i think i have forgotten alot, i have a sewing machine and some knitting bits flouting around but am unsure what to start with. I like the idea of making garments or home wears if any of you crafty mnetters have any ideas i would love to hear them id like something reasonably quick to begin with (im an instant gratification kinda gal)

OK, let's start with the bad news, there are lots of us out there making things and selling them on-line and at fairs, you will not make a fortune and you will never recoup your time costs.

Right, that being said set aside an evening to look at folksy, etsy, misi and pinterest, look at what you like and what you would enjoy making, don't copy but use it as a starting point. Next go to a couple of craft fairs, they will be busy at this time of the year, watch what is selling, which stalls have queues, look at their prices and think whether you could afford to make it for that and still have a profit, then look for the gap in the market and fill it. Go to the library and take out books from the craft section, look at what you can manage and build up your skills.

Thanks Lattelady i know what you mean about you will recoup your time in £££££ trust me hair and nails are much the same you make your products back your hourly rate but never a profit as such :-( but i love it and to me thats all that matters. i will have a look at etsy etc and i think take a trip to my local sewing/craft shop and let my inspiration guide me maybe start with some xmas gifts for friends and family x
