Help?

I adhesived (okay, not a word!) a box shut, well, technically DH did.

It's a wooden box and I think he didn't wash the brush after using adhesive to stick a thing inside the box more securely (it was fine as it was!) and then painted over some of the box.

I work with wood a lot, but haven't had to unstick anything before. Have ruined one knife already. Tips?

What kind of glue was it? I know you can dissolve glue with acetone. Sometimes just gentle heating, with a hair dryer, to warm up the glue can help it become unstuck.
