How the jeff do I start my ball of wool! Where are the ends?

Right. I'm trying to finish off a blanket, have bought an enormous ball of yarn to do the sewing up to give me motivation to finish knitting the rest. I have found what looks like two ends of the wool tied together, untied the knot and attempted to find one end that would neatly unwind the ball. It doesn't exist. Both ends appear to woven in around and under the rest of the ball. Nothing unwinds easily. I'm getting increasingly pissed off and am about to give up completely - never had trouble unwinding a ball of wool before! Wtf am I doing wrong!!?

Is it a skein rather than a ball? If it is then you need to wind it into balls yourself. When you started was it sort twisted around itself?

If it was a ball then have a root about in the centre of it and you should be able to pull out a little seemingly tangled clump (I've heard it called a yarn barf,) which should have an end in it which you can pull and knit from.
