What is the UK term for US "indoor/outdoor" fabric?

I'm half way through making this beach bag in quilt weight fabric. Whilst it's gorgeous fabric, the blogger says to use what she calls indoor/outdoor weight fabric, which I can see would be better. She says the fabric she's using is water resistant, fade-proof and looks like it would be more robust, great for a beach bag, obviously. It seems to be an American term as when I google it, I get US sites.

So what do I need to search for to find this kind of fabric?

Pvc? Oil cloth?

I don't think it's shiney like that. It kind of looks like deck chair material, but not as thick maybe?

not sure, but this place is good

water repellent

God, they're gorgeous fabrics!

Have you sewn with them monster? I wonder how thick they are and if my crappy sewing machine could cope?!

I think they have different weight from deck-chair canvas for sewing projects. I've not used myself, but we have a beach bag made out of the sewing fabric (not water repellent) and it is very good. Do they do swatches??
Also, do fabrics not usually come with a quoted weight? weft/weave density that you could check against your machine/needle strength??

thank you monster, I'm such a novice, I have no idea about needles and fabric weight.

anyone else know what this kind of fabric might be?

I thought it was called the same outdoor fabric / waterproof fabric. You have to make sure it is fade resistant as well as just waterproof though when using outside, so make sure you read the description.

Yes I made the mistake once and within a month the cushions I had made stared to fade, it was a real disappointment as the website sold it as outdoor waterproof fabric, but it turned out that it wasn’t fade resistant.

Here’s a little guide that I found about outdoor fabric.
