decoupage idea needed please?

Anyone do it? I have painted an old metal vase. I have bought 5 A5 (approx size) decoupage papers that are thick (like wallpaper) which hasve different, really distressed/antiquey faded patterns on.

I've not done any decoupage before and would like some ideas how to use these papers to make something that looks lovely. The papers just have overall frescoey,faint patterns on, so no specific shapes you could cut out and stick on to the vase. Any ideas what I could do?

I have mod podge and a brush but am not imaginative/arty (though I would love to be) TIA.

Hmm, I thought Decoupage papers were normally thin and flimsy!

Have you got a link of the papers?

Perhaps rip up a few sheets and completely cover in a random effect. Are there any bolder or larger designs in the papers that you could cut around and then paste over the random, patched background????

I thought decoupage paper was thin too Dingle. I can't do links but it is thicker than good quality printer paper if that gives you any idea. I think I will do the ripping up thing and just cover the jug like you suggest. I can see that looking nice. And I will see if any patterny bits stand out enough to be cut out. Thanks ever so. Am new to this.

Thanks Dingle. I had a go this aft and don't like how it's looking! I tore the paper into pieces but it's so thick that, all round each tear is white paper and it looks like a badly sewn together patchwork quilt! I've stuck them on one side of the vase and it looks like something a 2 year old has done! Just rubbish. It's really really hard to get it all off so I can begin again! I loved the look of the paper but not hot it goes when it's torn up. Argggggh.

What make is the paper seiztheafternoon? I'll try to google it.

The only other idea is to ink the edges of the paper or use something like a metallic rub on, to make a feature of them.

IMO decoupatch/decoupage paper are usually really flimsy so you can overlap. It will soften so much with the sticky medium you use, it become pliable enough to mould into shape...

Thanks Dingle The paper was from an online co called The Bag Emporium. I will have to go back on their site and find the paper again as I've deleted all the emails from them now. It wasn't the best paper for a beginner to work with that I do know.
