Pocket blanket?

Hi
I got a sewing machine last october and apart from one project for church I haven't used it since! :(
So.
I would like to make both some a line summer skirts for myself and more importantly a patchwork type blanket for my children....except I don't want a traditional patchwork blanket as some of them seem quite thin?
I was researching and came across the idea of making lots of pockets, filling them with filling (hypo allergenic?) and then sewing them together.
What do you think?
Silly idea?
I guess would look more like an old style continental quilt?
Any tips gratefully recieved!

Hmmm...sort of, but more like rectangular pockets rather than round bubbles iyswim?
Say 15cms x 10cms?
Different fabrics.
Not sure where I would source the fabric or filling from!
