Would anybody be intrested in buying handcrafted nursing necklaces/beads?

A few of you have asked for them and thought the ones on e-bay look naf so i thought i could make some to sell on e-bay, so just wanted to know if you would rather buy a handmade one or pay twice as much for a branded one?

I think i could sell them for half the price of what others are charging.

So what do you all think?

yes or no?

I've bought a \link{http://www.rumina.co.uk/default.asp?cookiecheck=yes&\rumina} one. If you could do them like that I'd definitely be interested (those are handmade anyway, of course).

Thats the sort of thing i'm looking to make also the 'little gems' necklaces (no good at links), i have already made one but did'nt want to buy loads of gems and beads if no one will buy them.

Oh I'd buy one, could you make them in certain colours/styles to order?

Jasnem · 15/05/2006 19:50

I would be interested, depending on the price (I'm broke, but really want one)Smile
Please do us a link if/when you decide to start making them.

Whizzz · 15/05/2006 19:52

blueamema - basically something for the baby to grab/play with whilst feeding.
Marne, I guess they would have to be really sturdy so as not to come undone when grabbed

Sounds a good idea... will sell well.

My brother-in-law sells jewellery on an ebay shop, maybe he could suggest a cheap supplier?? I will ask him for you.

Or you could check out his stuff yourself, his user name is glasskanvas, he sells some lovely dichroic glass necklaces. Wink at cheap prices!
Shop address below...

Let me know if i can help....
Are there any more WAHM's out there?? If so what do you do/make??

P.S have just looked at the nursing necklaces on ebay... my only suggestion is that they may be so expensive as they have to have British Standards and be tested for breaking stain/made from non toxic beads and thread etc??? as they are for small babies?

Not to put a downer on things!!!

Marne · 15/05/2006 20:39

Thanks blueamema, yes i have noticed that the others on e-bay are british standard, if i sell on e-bay i would have to tell people that they are not british standard. All my beads and thread will be non toxic (i will make sure of that).

How do you get products tested, does it cost alot?

OP posts:
Marne · 15/05/2006 20:40

I can test them on my dd Grin

OP posts:
Whizzz · 15/05/2006 20:47

I suppose you could buy tested thread but then any 'weakness' would be in the fastenings??
I should imagine to get finished articles tested would be expensive (a guess) as they would have to pull & stretch under controlled conditions.

blueamema · 15/05/2006 20:48

I guess your right... as long as you say there handmade by you and not B.S you should be fine.

If you need any help with setting up an ebay site/shop just ask as I have just done it recently myself... just not up and running yet.
Baby body suits with embroidered initials on. Just hope they sell!!! Smile

If you were worried about testing the best thing to do is get in contact with an actual supplier? They may give you help/or not??? nothing to loose.

misdee · 15/05/2006 20:50

Marne · 15/05/2006 21:08

DD (daughter)

misdee, sent you a picture of my first atemt, not sure if its any good, please be honist, tell me if its crap Grin

OP posts:
misdee · 15/05/2006 21:10

that is very very nice. how much would you be asking for these necklaces?

is the one you have sent for sale?

Marne · 15/05/2006 21:18

It would depend on what gems/stones are used.

A bit worried about the safety thing, i want to make sure they are safe before selling (don't want any complaints from anyone if there LO chokes on a bead Grin)

I might test on my Dd's first, unless anybody else wants to test for me?

OP posts:
Marne · 15/05/2006 21:40

misdee, if you want the one i sent you, you can have it for nothing, i will post it and you can look at it, test it out and let me know what you think,

If your intrested e-mail me your address and i will post it tomorow, you should have my e-mail address with the picture i sent.

I'd love to see some too... was just about to ask DH for a little gems one! If it helps, the ones of theirs I like are the heart within one and the serenity one...

I can test them on three swinging toddlers and a newborn! (I'm not bf the toddlers though but they pull on everything I wear!) and newborn is due August!

Marne · 15/05/2006 21:55
