Sewing machines

I'm a novice still I've been using a cheapo mini stitch from home bargains and it's annoying I fancy an upgrade.

What do I look for? Does spending more get you more? Is there a go 2 make?

I had a thread on this last week - hope it might be useful.

Brilliant thank you both. I just remembered there is a specialised sewing machine shop not far from me. Maybe they can give me a few lessons too
