Hooks for a beginner

I've just taken up crocheting and was given a 3.5 aluminium hook. I'm getting on well with a granny square blanket and was thinking I should get some more hooks to try on a different project.

What would sizes I should I get? I've no ideas yet as to what the next project will be. And then I was looking at ergonomic hooks, are they more comfy as the marketing suggests? I do find the normal hook a bit thin in my hand. Then there are so many different types that I'm a little bamboozled.

I bought a set of metal hooks from ebay - 10, in a range of the sizes from about 3.5 upwards, I think. They were from China or Taiwan, and were pretty cheap - and pretty colours too - and so far, they have done pretty much everything I wanted them to do, apart from putting beads into knitting, for which I had to buy a very fine hook.

Same as SDTG (probably the same set). Despite preferring bamboo knitting needles, I get on fine with the metal hooks - the bigger ones are particuarly comfortable.

I have a coloured metal set form Ebay too - came from the Far East and cost about £1.99! They are fine.

I got mine from Amazon but they are also metal, different colours and cover all the sizes I need.

I got a set from Amazon to begin with, metal ones too. Cheap as chips.

Now I prefer knit pro symfonie wooden ones, not cheap but lovely to use.

The size I use most frequently is 4mm because I mostly hook with Dk wool. I like having a few different sizes though.

Thanks for your help. I had a look at the metal ones and then the pro knit ones. I saw the pro knit ergonomical hooks and decided to splash out on 3 of them. (3,4&5 mm) They are probably things that will last forever so might as well be comfy and I've no other hobbies at the moment.

Now I'm all excited and will be watching for the postie everyday.
