Writing on fabric

I am planning on making cushions for my dd1s reception teacher and ta. I thought they would be nice to have on their chairs in the classroom. I have got 3 coordinating fabrics one of which has butterflies on it (she is in butterflies class).

Anyway, I am planning on making a union Jack design and thought it would be a nice touch if I could get my daughter to write out their names and then I could embroider them onto the cushions. What do you think? Would it work and look good? What would be the best way to do it?

They sound fabulous. I think adding their names is a lovely idea.

Hand write the names on the fabric with an air erasable or water soluble pen then embroider over the writing with one or two strands of embroidery thread.
