Need to create a rough texture on a pic but have no sand

Long and boring reason so won't go into why but need to create about 1cm square of rough texture on a pic tonight and have no sand or sandpaper or emery boards. Any idea for non foodstuff thing I might have round the house that might do this?

I know you said no foodstuffs, but def can't use sugar or dry coffee grounds? Otherwise I guess you could seive and dry some soil from outside

I was going to suggest going outside and rubbing the picture on the house bricks. But I think that might not be the solution you're looking for - do you mean need to only 'rough up' a 1cm square area while leaving the surrounding areas of the picture in original condition?

I need the recipient to e able to run their finger over it and it feel rough. Like a That's Not My... Book. Sand would be perfect but have done and need to do it tonight.

Salt? Or you could make the paper feel rough by rubbing with a wet pencil rubber.

Salt is a good idea actually thank you. I know it's a foodstuff but my concern is not to use stuff that would attract mice.

Any match boxes about?

LiquidLunch · 02/12/2012 18:05

Scrunched up, flattened foil?

Any Velcro on anything you can spare?

Oh you are clever. I have matchbox and also have Velcro in sewing basket. THANK YOU!!
