Clever ways to customise Muslin cloths..?

I love sewing names in chain stitch but Muslin is so open weaved is doesnt really work.. I wondered if I iron something on the back it will help?

Any other tips/suggestions welcome!

Could you edge them in ribbon? Or tiedye them?

I dyed mine with Dylon dyes. Loose weave may affect iron-on stuff too.

Give them to my 3 year old. He'll chew the corners off then complain his 'blankie' doesn't have any corners Hmm
