Painting a wooden dolls house

I'd like to get a wooden dolls house and paint it myself. Could someone who's a bit more experienced in this sort of practical thing tell me if I need to use special paints - what's best for painting bare wood? Thanks.

No, you don't need to use special paints but it is usual to apply a primer first on raw wood.

I would use the samples of wood you can get from builder's merchants, that way you will have a huge range of colours to choose from.
