Can anyone help me with a recipe for dough that we can bake/set hard?

Apologies if this has been asked before but I am planning on making Christmas tree decorations with the children and would like to make some dough which I can then cook in the oven and set. I have googled and found recipes for dough and recipes for baking but not an actual recipe that can be baked if you see what I mean. My children are 6 and 4 so I don't want them to make the decorations and then I ruin them by baking them incorrectly.

If anyone has a tried and tested recipe and method they could pass on to me I (and my 2 DC) would really appreciate it.

2 cups flour
1cup salt
1 cup water
1 tablespoon oil.

Bake on very low for a looooooong time.

You can also test a piece by putting it in the microowave on the lowest defrost setting. I bake the childrens saltdough things by microwave and it works well - much quicker than the oven!

If you want something a bit 'finer' in it's finish than salt dough Google 'cold porcelain' (school glue, cornflour, baby oil & lemon juice, you can colour it with either food colouring or acrylic paints).

It keeps in a plastic bag with a few drops of baby oil & dries if left out in the air.

I've about 7 colours of it on the go ATM to make Xmas decs!

It worked out luffly and didn't need an oven. I doubled the proportion of cornflour though (American recipe calls it cornstarch). Trying to put photo on profile.
